Karate athletes from Cavite State University claimed four medals – including 1 gold, 2 silvers, and 1 bronze – during the 1st National University Virtual Kata Championship 2021 sponsored by the Federation of Schools Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP) Karate Club in collaboration with Batangas State University on 27-28 October.

Among the 16 entries in the Women’s Division and 8 entries in the Men’s Division, Itchi Ann Denniece Aquino claimed gold in Women Category B, John Ralph G. Cauilan and Julia Christine R. Tadeo bagged silver in Men Category B and Women Category B, respectively, and Arthur James A. Bacosa won bronze in Men Category A.

Ms. Justine Tristeza from the College of Criminal Justice and Mr. Renato A. Tanglao from the College of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation served as their coaches.

According to CvSU Sports Director Ana Liza R. Mojica, the competition was held to determine the final members of the Philippine Karate Delegation to the 20th ASEAN University Games, which will be held in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand on July 26 – August 6, 2022.
